So with a heap of random bits and pieces, source books and adventures, kicking around (Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Dark Sun, Birthright, Greyhawk, Spelljammer, Ravenloft plus generic Basic D&D adventures) I had only one course of action... abandon them all and start anew.
I've always felt funny playing in "proper" developed worlds, don't rightly know why, perhaps it's because I like them all in their own right and don't want to mess them up in any way. Yeah, that'll do.
So instead of writing millions of words and developing a whole world I've decided to make the world/universe/setting the same way I run most adventures... a few notes and a shit load of making things up as I go along!
We decided (a no brainer really) to use Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Second Edition as our base rules, mainly as we're both the most comfortable with that system (Basic would sit fine with me, but the majority of the supplements and adventures I own are for 2nd Ed so it's just... perfect).
For the foreseeable future the adventures I will be relating will be just me as DM and my wife as player. I've found, when I was playing heavily, that one on one adventuring allowed both DM and player to fully immerse ourselves in our roles without distraction. Plus now days it's hard for us to both find time to do anything together let alone try and manage more players and schedules.
So with that information in mind we'd gathered dice, miniatures, some terrain, whiteboard, pens and paper, and our AD&D 2nd Ed rule books and got ready:
Then life got in the way for a day or so. Typical :D
But, determined, we still managed to get stuck into it!!
