I've found the new (well, sorta new...) D&D plastic pre-painted models to be quite handy. Without any hassles they're right to use as soon as you pull them out of their plastic bags, and, for the most part, they're pretty decent sculpts.
As all who pick them up can see, there's some casting lines which are pretty hard to remove and even out sometimes, but in all honesty, they're a cheap and accessible source of monsters.
(For PCs and NPCs I prefer metals)
